What is TUFLAR™?
TUFLAR™ is Keltrol’s uniquely formulated UHMW-PE polymer having a molecular weight range of 3.5 to 6 million. The long chain of molecular structure of UHMW polyethylene can be degraded if handled improperly during the processing from resin to final product. Keltrol has the technology to assure that all TUFLAR™ products exhibit optimum properties due to our patented ram extrusion process.
MACHINING OF TUFLAR™
• TUFLAR™ can be sawed, milled, planed, drilled, turned or punched on equipment generally used for wood and metals.
• Stellite and carbide tipped cutting tools are recommended because they are more economical in the long run. Wide cutting tools that have wide tooth spacing to provide good chip clearance are essential.
• The higher the cutting speed, the better the surface finish will be; however, cutting speeds are limited by frictional heat buildup.
• Too much heat should be avoided when machining TUFLAR™ in order to retain dimensional stability. Cooling can be accomplished with water soluble coolants.
Who Makes TUFLAR™?
Keltrol Enterprises, Inc. established in January 1975 is a technically talented company engaged in the development and manufacture of TUFLAR™ Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW-PE) polymers. Keltrol has production and research facilities in York, Pennsylvania.
TUFLAR™ polymers originate with the highest-grade resins and the most advanced conversion processes available. Quality TUFLAR™ products are assured by means of Keltrol’s patented ram extrusion*
Extruded products of Keltrol’s TUFLAR™ polymers provide a unique combination of properties, outstanding resistance to wear, impact, and chemicals in addition to self-lubrication and light weight. Special emphasis is placed on the marketing of thin or heavy wall, balanced or unbalanced extrusions of any two-dimensional profile, rod, tube or strip stock.
The textile, chemical, pulp and paper, and transportation industries, material handlers, food processors, producer of farm implements, and recreational equipment all have a long history of excellent service from Keltrol’s TUFLAR™.
We Extrude & Fabricate TUFLAR™ Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) Polymers.
Conveyor Parts, Conveyor Clip-ons, J-Legs, Strip, Rod, Angle, Channel, Tubing, Loader Slides and more…
WHY CHOOSE US?
THE TUFLAR™ ADVANTAGES
- Abrasion resistance – more resistant than carbon, stainless, and abrasion resistant steels – ideal as wear surface, or strip material for equipment parts and components.
- Impact and shock resistance – withstands repeated izod impact even at cryogenic temperatures (- 40º C).
- Low coefficient of friction – close to Teflon and better than glass – no surface adhesion of material – ideal for self-lubricating at ambient temperature – no lubricants to contaminate work area or finished product.
- Light weight – weighs approximately 1/8 that of steel.
- Chemically inert – unaffected by corrosive environment – zero percent water absorption – odor free – no toxic fumes – FDA approved.
- Noise abatement – reduces noise level dramatically upon impact.
- Easy to machine – conventionally sawed, milled, planed and drilled.
- Economical – longer wear life, easy to machine, and costs less to handle and install.
